So you want to try your luck in Rio de Janeiro? We know it's hard to start from scratch in a new city. Let us give you an idea of how to hit the ground running.

Steps to go

Beyond the Map

Training

We're gonna admit it. It wasn't easy getting started teaching private English classes here in RJ. But once we got going, we realized how to be successful in an interesting and growing market.

We want to show you how it's done and pass along the things we have learned in our time here. Why start from scratch? We know that having a friend guide you through the learning process can make all the difference.

Community

Sometimes what makes moving to a new city difficult, is making new friends. Here, we want to give you the opportunity to meet up with other people in the same situation. Travelers like you, who want to work and experience a new culture.

We have created a forum to share travel tips, happenings around the city and meet-up nights. We want to encourage you not only to meet other foreigners in the same boat, but the Brazilians as well, looking for a cultural exchange.

We know what you are thinking. But how am I going to make money with this program? How do I avoid going bankrupt or hungry in the first month?

Don't worry. We are prepared to help you get the ball rolling. We have scouted out Brazilian students eager to start private English classes with native speakers.

We will set you up with your first 3 students to give you a head start. In exchange for this connection and any ongoing assistance you may need, our program charges a one time, competitive fee of US$250.   Beyond the Map guarantees that in your first month of teaching, you will earn back what you spent on the training or your money back. Each month you get paid by your students, 100% of your earnings go straight into your pocket.

Can't pay up front? We have payment options where you pay us only after your student pays you.

How do you know you can count on us? Not too long ago, we were college grads packing our suitcases to look for adventures in Brazil. Our mothers were terrified we would either be eaten alive in the Amazon jungle, or worse, find Brazilian boyfriends. We know how scary it is to try something different in a new place. But we couldn't be happier we took the jump and did it! That is why we are so passionate about setting you up in RJ so you can begin your own adventure.

Language Immersion

We learned pretty fast that Portuguese is not exactly an easy language. Our program is built to give you the necessary tools to be able to communicate not only with your new students but with everyone you come into contact with.

Fabiana Matos is our Portuguese professor in residence. She graduated from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) in Portuguese Literature. She has the know-how to get you speaking in no time. Her classes are focused on Portuguese for foreigners and she tailors the lessons to your individual needs.
